Tinnin Genealogy Forum posting by Alex Thompson: The book "Tinnin Treks" reports that Col. Hugh TINNIN of the Revolutionary War and wife Sibella THOMPSON had a son William TINNIN, born about 1773 in Orange Co. NC, died about 1854 in Cape Girardeau Co. MO, married Susannah BOLLINGER, born about 1788. They were married and living in MO by 1802, and an 1803 Census of the Cape Girardeau area showed Wm. Finnantg with 1 male and 1 female. "Tinnin Treks" mentions an 1806 land record that stated that Wm. and wife had a son, but the book does not identify who that son was. That oldest son's name was almost certainly John, who married Charity ALBRIGHT in about 1824 and had 2 sons (William Benjamin and Hugh A) and a daughter (Sarah Elizabeth) in the 1830 Census of Cape Girardeau Co. Later another son, Christopher, was born. John apparently died before 1840. John's widow Charity never remarried, and accompanied her oldest son, William Benjamin TINNIN, to Hood Co. TX, where, in the 1880 Census, she was indicated as 75 years old, born in GA and her father was born in Germany. She was apparently a sister of Benjamin and Christian ALBRIGHT, neighbors in the 1830 Census of Cape Girardeau Co. MO. Charity and several descendants were buried at Rock Church Cemetery, Hood Co. TX. Information about John and Charity's four known children is summarized below.

1. The oldest of John and Charity's children was William Benjamin TINNIN Sr., born Jan 03, 1826, died May 29, 1904, buried Rock Church Cem. as were other kin, including his mother and his two wives: Hannah married about 1851, daughter of William and Delila GUNNELS; and Jane C., daughter of Isaac M. ARMSTRONG. W.B. TINNIN and his GUNNELS father-in-law moved their families from Stoddard Co. MO to Hood Co. TX in about 1857. William Benjamin's oldest children, Isaac C and William B. Jr. were born 1852 and 1856 in MO, and the younger children were born in TX: Jacob E (1859), Margaret L (1864), and Rose A (1866). Wife Hannah died in 1874 and William Benjamin married (11 Nov 1875, Erath Co. TX) the widow Jane Culperna ARMSTRONG MABERY, whose first husband was Jesse B. MABERY of Stoddard Co. MO. Jane C and William B had no children who reached maturity. A cemetery listing is available on the Internet at url http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/hood/cemeteries/rock.txt

2. John and Charity's only daughter was Sarah Elizabeth TINNIN, born Oct 06, 1827, died Sep 29, 1898, buried Mitchell Bend Cem. Erath Co. TX. Sarah married William J MABERY, and they were in the 1850 Census of Stoddard Co. MO (Sarah's name listed as Susanna) with a year old son Benjamin J MABERY. They later had a daughter Sarah before William died, some time before March 1853. William's widow then married Abraham CRITES, and between 1859 and 1869, five CRITES children were born in Erath Co. TX: Charity, Susan, Frank, Mary A, and Martha CRITES.

3. The middle son, Hugh A. TINNIN, remained in Stoddard Co. and Hugh A. "TENAN" and wife Elizabeth Caroline MABERY, with the first three of five children: Elizabeth, Benjamin and Missouri, were listed in the 1860 Census of Pikes Twp. Stoddard Co. MO (immediately south of Cape Girardeau Co.). Hugh was born about 1829 and died about 1867 in Stoddard Co. His wife Elizabeth Caroline MABERY was born Oct. 1835 in AL and died after 1900 in TX. After Hugh's death, his widow Caroline married Joseph STAGGS. This is known from estate records, uncovered by Joyce Brown, of Caroline's father Joshua MABERY, who died intestate in Stoddard Co. His estate was administered by his son Jesse B. MABERY, with a share going to Caroline STAGGS, wife of Joseph STAGGS. In the 1870 Census, Caroline STAGGS was already a widow, with her son Benny and two daughters, Parthena and Hannah TINNIN, who were born after the 1860 Census; and a two year old daughter Victoria STAGGS, who apparently died before the 1880 Census. Hood Co. TX records show a Feb 1, 1877 marriage between Benjamin TINNEN and Mary F. BRINLEE, which is apparently applicable to this son of Hugh A. and Caroline. Research by Margaret McClesky has shown that Margaret Parthena TINNIN married, first, Martin L. INGLEY (2 children) and then Jacob C. HINKLE (7 children). Hannah apparently married, but her husband hasn't been identified. The widow Elizabeth Caroline MABERY TINNIN STAGGS married (25 Dec 1799 in Hood Co. TX) a widower Benjamin SPARKS, who died before 1900; they had no children. Their marriage record gives her name as Caroline TINNEN, a good indication that daughter Victoria STAGGS had already died. In the 1900 Census, widow Caroline SPARKS was living with her daughter Parthena M. HINKLE and her husband Jacob C in Dallas Co. TX. Caroline reported she had 6 children, 3 of whom were still living.

4. John and Charity's youngest known child was Christopher TINNIN, age 24 in the 1860 Census of Erath Co. TX and 46 in the 1880 Census of the same county, and thus born about 1835, probably in Cape Girardeau Co. MO. Christopher's wife in 1860 was named Katherine, age 25 and born in IL. They had no children, but his nephew William B. TINNIN, Jr. was listed with them, age 5. In the 1880 Census of Erath Co., Christopher was listed with wife Lebicka [Rebecca], age 31 born in IL, with three young sons and a daughter: Robert M (7), George H (5), Charity E (3), and Abraham (2). The widow Rebecca TINNIN was household head in the 1900 Census of Hood Co. TX, who reported she had 7 children, all of whom were living. With her were the additional 3 children: daughter Levana, Walter and Mary (the youngest, b. Nov 1885). Edward L. Williams, in a Post-em to Joyce Brown's Ancestry World Tree site, gives Christopher's full name as Christopher Elijah Jacob TINNIN, b. 22 February 1835, d. 29 May 1890 in Hood Co., TX, married Rebecca Ann PETERS on 16 January 1873.
