Record of their marriage bond is found on the WV culture vital records site. Aaron Thompson and Stephen Jackson were bondsmen. Her name was first written as Patty Jackson; then the Patty was struck through and written above it was Martha.

Earlier I had John's birthplace in Monongahela Valley, Fauquier Co., Virginia. But I am fairly certain Monongahela Valley is not, nor ever has been in Fauquier Co, even when the county might have been larger. So perhaps folks giving this as a source, didn't know which place he was born in. The above marriage record does not give birth locations, but by this time both John and Patty lived in Harrison Co, Virginia. Now there is a Monongahela Valley in Harrison Co.

By 1850 John and Martha were found on the Barbour County census. Their son Thomas A. was living next household to John and Martha.
