John - b. 1741/2, VA; d. 1799, Greenville Co., SC. John gave his age as 35 years on Sep. 13, 1777 in Henry Co., VA. Married Dec. 7, 1768, Amherst Co., VA Tabitha TANKERSLEY, daughter of Richard and Winifred TANKERSLEY. John's will was written Apr. 8, 1799 and proved that year in Greenville Co., SC (Will Book A, page 109). Children of John and Tabitha TARRANT: Samuel married Anna 'Nancy' HAMPTON (Tarrant County, TX is named for their son Gen. Edward Hampton TARRANT); Sally married Alexandr McKENZIE; Rowland married Hannah WOOD; Richard married Rebecca; Nancy married Henry MACHEN; John; and George married Mary Caroline WALKER. Estate of John Tarrant. Apt. 7 File 476. Probate Judge Office. Greenville, SC. I John Tarrant being of sound mind and mamory, do make this my lat will and testament, etc. I desire my just debts be paid. I have given to Sally McKenzieons a feather bed and furniture and one mare colt. I have given to Samuel Tarrant on feather bed and furniture and one young mare be all of my estate I intend for him. I have given Rowland Tarrant one young mare and I have given one feather bed and furniture. I now give to Richard Tarrant one young horse colt and one feather bed and furniture. I now give to my youngest children viz: Nancy, John, and George Tarrant each of htem a twenty pound horse saddle and bridle, when they come of age or marry, also each to get a feather bed and furniture. I now give Edward Hampton Tarrant son of Samuel Tarrant dec's one twenty pound horse saddle and bridle when he come of age. I now give to my beloved wife Tabitha Tarrant during her life time or widowhood all my estate both personal and real, after the death or marriage of my wife Tabitha my estate be equally divided between my six chldren viz: Sally McKenzie, Rowlan, Richard, Nancy, John and George. I appoint my wife Tabitha and sons Rowland and Richard exec. Dated 8 Apr 1799. Wit: James Tarrant, Benjamin Tarrant, David X Crofford.
