Commissioned Affidavit for State of Georgia says "wounded as follows: on charging afoot, his left arm was torn off by the explosion of a hand grenade thrown by the enemy....." on file in the Department of State at Atlanta. Other years it says "by amputation about two and one half inches above wrist joint; all of the hand and portions of the arm entirely off". He received $40.00 until 1890 then it was raised to $100.00. Last filing was January 29, 1902.
