SWAINE, John, s. of John and Mary, [born] Dec. 16, 1721.
↑ His widow's gravestone calls her a widow at her death in 1800. She is buried in Winchester, NH, and appeared to be living with her daughter Mary (Swain) Flint. An article in Source:Essex Genealogist (Massachusetts) (Essex Society of Genealogists), Vol. 4, p. 79, gives his death as 1805, presumably based on a death record for John Swain Jr. in Reading, but this John wouldn't have been known as John Jr. after his father died in 1774, and the probate file in 1805 shows that it was indeed a different John Swain, who left a widow Lucy whom he had married in 1799 and had "no children of the age of twenty one years & upwards", apparently the John, s/o John and Lois, b. 1776, as his father John deferred administration to Oliver Swain, presumably the brother of the deceased.
