In 1841, an Ann Stringer b. abt 1826 and a Mary Stringer b. abt 1829 are living with him. Their relationship to John has not yet been established, they could be his children or perhaps nieces. John named another daughter Ann in 1834 and it would be unusual to name two living children Ann. There would also be the question of the girls' mother, as John's first wife Ann was probably the Ann Stringer who was buried in Worth on 27 Dec 1822.

There is also the question of John Stringer who is in the same household as John in the 1841 census and us listed as a nephew of John's son George in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. A baptism record gives John (the grandson's) mother as Sarah Stringer, however no other record of John Sr. having a daughter named Sarah.
