    Robert Stevens was a blacksmith and a descendant of Joseph Stevens (also spelled Steavens, Stephens and Steaphens). Joseph Steavens, major and engineer, discharged 1759 after service in the French and Indian War. The Stevens are descendants of John Stevens who in 1738 owned 400 acres on the Hardware River.
