James Latimer Steere 'Jim', 81, passed away at his home in Crystal on March 8, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 10, 1929 in Crystal, Michigan to E. Russell and Cecil (Latimer) Steere. He married Thelma (Tim) Stacy in 1952 in Crystal. He was a lifelong member of the Crystal Congregational Church, and the Mt. Gilead Masonic Lodge of Crystal. Before serving his country in the Korean War, Jim graduated from Crystal High School and Michigan State University. His lifetime occupation was spent in marketing and sales in the oil industry, retiring from Total Petroleum in Alma. He loved woodworking, carpentry, and anything outdoors; working in his yard and gardens, hunting, fishing, and playing golf. Being active in his community, he served on County and Township Planning Committees, and on the Carson City-Crystal Schools Board of Education. Jim is survived by a son, James Steere, and a daughter, Staci (Vince) Chelf, both of Crystal; one granddaughter, Sally Steere; a sister, Ellen VanDemark of Alma; a sister-in-law, Betty Steere of Crystal; many nieces and nephews, a very special friend, Bonnie Flint of Crystal, and a companion, Tucker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Thelma (Tim), and his brother, Robert (Bob) Steere. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to Carson City Hospice or the Crystal Congregational Church. The family was served by the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home, Crystal, Michigan. |
