J. Alvin Sponaugle, 77, Hendricks, died yesterday at Tucker County Hospital after a long illness. A native of Doddridge County, he was a son of the late John W. and Isabelle (Cunningham) Sponaugle. He was a retired farmer and forest service employe. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of General Garnett Post 4322, VFW, and Pentecostal Church of God at Hendricks. Surviving are his widow, Bessie (Hedrick) Sponaugle; three sons, Freeman Sponaugle, Sandyville; Berlin L. and Paul W. Sponaugle, Hendricks; five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Stalnaker, Elkins; Mrs. Evelyn Parsons, Canton, Ohio; Mrs. Lorraine Hedrick, Mrs. Louise Leppic, Hambleton, and Mrs. Abbie Hollar, here; three brothers, Clarence Sponaugle, Hambleton; Bryan Sponaugle, Hendricks and Lorenzo Sponaugle, Benbush; four sisters, Mrs. Jessie Bodkin, here, Mrs. Bricy Moore, Northern and Mrs. Tiny Mucille, Elkins; 26 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The body is at the Greenlief Funeral Home where friends will be received after 10 a.m. today. A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m. Rev. Meade L Gutshall and Rev. Lilly Plaugher will officiate. Interment will be in Brights Chapel Cemetery. Members of the VFW will serve as pallbearers. Cumberland Times - February 18, 1969 |
