[Note: not father of Thomas, too young. No proof that he is the same man who married Mary Sinnet per next source.]

[This is a nearly 40 page articles on John Sparks. It is wordy, explaining earmarks, apprenticeships, and various background material as well as presenting the evidence. It is a correction based on primary sources to an earlier article in 1977 that relied on secondary sources. The primary evidence is a deposition of John Sparks, the will of Walter Roper, John Roper and Mary Sparks. The following is a summary.]
DepositionS4 gives age 27 on first day of 1662 so born 1634.
Apprenticed to Obadiah WoodS3 who married his sister Margaret, brother Samuel apprenticed the same day.
Thomas Sparks was 22 in 1673 [citing Essex Quarterly Court, Vol. V, p. 190 ] so born about 1651 so John too young to be his father.
John Sparks "having laide down his license" in March 1693, definitely died by 12 Mar 1704/05 when John Roper sold the house "formerly in possession of Mr. John Sparks, now in possession of Mary, widow of John". [Quote as in article, paraphrases deed. Essex Deed Vol. 18, p. 16, though note the article claims John was "acting as executor of John Spark's estate", but the deed indicates John Roper and wife Anna sold the property with other property he had bought.]
Walter Roper's will in 1680 names daughter Mary and grandchildren Elizabeth Sparks, Susan, Margarit, Rose & Sarah Sparks, grandchild John Sparks.
Will of John Roper, Mary's brother in 1709 names his sister Sparks, Susannah Annable, Margerit White, Rose Newman and Sary Newman.
Will of Mary Sparks in 1711 names daughter Susannah Annable, daughter Sarah Newman, will of brother John Rooper, son Thomas Newman & daughter Rose Newman with whom I Now Live.
Regarding Mary Sinnett marriage in 1661, found in Boston VRs. No evidence that this is the same man has been found but article believes so. Mary is not mentioned in a deed selling Walter Sinnet's real estate [Suffolk deed Vol. V, p. 378 ], presumed to illustrate her early death consistent with John Sparks remarrying. Claimed by GDMNH, p. 650 [Mary not mentioned on this page, p. 312 on Harris, John #10, is a better reference], that a John Harris m. 1687 Mary Sparks d/o John Sparks of Ipswich and Boston. [Hmmm... A daughter of Mary Sinnet's would not be mentioned in any of the wills above, but should have had a share of the real estate of Walter Sinnet, even if Mary herself was dead. It appears deed was misinterpreted, something we need original order to divide estate to fully assess, some heirs may have been paid out of the personal estate, etc., or other real estate holdings, so it is not clear that absence of all but 2 children is meaningful.]
