John William Spain moved to Loundes County when it was a wilderness. Was the first to put a postal service into successful operation for his district. He voluntarily acted as postmaster for a period of time. The first Post Office was at Piscola, which has been wiped out, perhaps in the division of the land to make up the counties of Loundes and Brookes.
