John Snapp Jr. was born about 1787. He married Elizabeth Cook, the daughter Henry Cook of Rockingham County, Virginia, who had served in Lord Dunmore's War at the Battle of Point Pleasant. John and his father joined many other families and sold their land in 1815 to move to Washinton county, Tennessee, John Sr. did not live long in Tennessee before his death in 1819.

John left his 1830 will in Greene County which provided funds for the education of his son, Harrison Galifant Snapp at Washington college (now Washington and Lee University).
