... John Smyth (later spelled Smith), a descendant of Roger de Clarendon, son of Edward the Black Prince, born in the year 1500, was sheriff of counties of Essex and Hertsford, 1539. He married Agnes Charnolts, of an ancient Lancaster family, and was succeeded by his son.
