"Southern Relatives", Vol IV, Dixie Hammond. There is much about his family incl. a drawing of a map shoing his property on Williams Creek in present Warren Co., Georgia. It is below the junctin of Beaverdam Creek.

1784, Oct 1 - he is married, as his wife Sarah Smith is given land by her father, in Wilkes Co., Georgia where she is living.

1792, Jun 11 - He got a warrant of survey for 140 acres, Georgia Grant Bk D p204. It is next to Aaron Grier's property.

1794, 27 Apr - will written 27 Apr 1794 and probated 30 Jan 1795, Wilkes Co., Georgia. "To wife Sarah all land etc. and slaves for life to despose of as she sees fit. The residue to be divided equally among my children when youongest arrives at 21." James Melton and David Erwin, Test.; Exers: James Kinman and Thomas Grier. These men were ordered to appear before Court on March 5, 1800 and were replaced by Elizabeth Smith, Charles Smith and John Walker.

1799 - Receipt of Benjamin and William Smith for their pay as overseers of the estate

1800 - Returns of 1796 by James Kinman while Exr: Cattle sold and killed for use of family. Slaves Betse, Easter, Joe. James Kinman account for tax on Thomas Grier. Receipt of Thomas Wooten, Jr. to Charles Smith, guardian, for $501 part of his legacy in right of his wife Mildred from her father's estate. 1800, Dec 4 and Feb 19, 1801 - Receipt of Betty Smith for her dower and 1/3 of the crop. (Betty evidently the widow of John Taylor Smith.)

1801, Apr. 6 - Drawing of lots for land of John Smith, deceased, by heirs and legatees. Land had been granted to John Smith, deceased; signed by Harris Coleman, James Wooten, John Pope, John Walker, Nancy Smith, Charles Smith, Milly Smith, heirs of John Taylor Smith, Benjamin Smith and William Smith. In a division of slaves James Smith gets Lewis and Jordan; Bethia C. Smith gets Jow; Stephen Smith gets Betty, Burwell, Rachel, Phereby; Robert Matthews gets Easter, David and Matilda.

1801-1802 - Receipt of Benj. Smith for legacy from father's estate.

1802 - Warrant of Apprmt. Returns for 1802 - expense of dividing 408 acres of land in Greene Co., between Nancy Smith, John Walker, and heirs of John Taylor Smith, deceased.

1802-1803 - Receipt of Charles Smith as guardian of Nancy and Mildred, orphans of Capt. John Smith and heirs of John Taylor Smith.

1806 - Receipt of Thomas Wooten, Jr. for $95, being money allowed for horse, saddlel, bed, etc..
