Long Island Genealogies, Bunker, pg 124: John Smith's "Will gives some property to Richard Townsend, he to provide for his mother and sister, Elisabeth Smith."

He was known as John Smith Nan (or Nant) to distinguish him from other John Smiths (e.g., John Smith Rock and John Smith Blue) who were his contemporaries.^[3][4]
