John Small, owned lot number 83 of the North Field in Salem in 1700. [Source: "The History of Salem Massachusetts", by Sidney Perley, p. 316]. In an article "Northfields, Salem, in 1700. No. 3", Essex Institute Historical Collections, Vol. 49, p. 189-90, it was bought in 1671 by John Small of Salem, planter [Essex Deeds, 5:99], with no subsequent changes recorded. This is the same description used by the father in other transactions which can clearly be identified as the father.
John Small of Braintree was given an allotment of land in Mendon in 1662 to be settled there before the end of "7 mo. 1663" [Sept. 1663] per NEHGR, p. 9:51. It is far from clear who this is. There do not seem to be any records in Braintree or Mendon for John Small.
"John Small, b. say 1639; on 27 November 1660, 'Jon. Smale Jr., being presented for saying that Mr. Higginson preached damnable lies, which could not be proved, was dismissed' [EQC 2:264]; no further record."
