John H. Sigafoos passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Ecumenical Retirement Community in Harrisburg, Pa. He was 95.
He was the son of the late Dr. John W. and Ruth (Crumrine) Sigafoos.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia (Kelly) Sigafoos, and a grandson, Corey L. Hoke.
John was born in Doylestown, Pa. on Sept. 13, 1920, and graduated from Doylestown High School in 1938. After high school, John attended Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.
John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He was commissioned Lt. Junior Grade in 1943 and spent the war years stationed in Pensacola, Fla. and Ottumwa, Iowa as a flight instructor.
After the war ended, John and Virginia lived in Chalfont, Pa., where they raised their two daughters. John worked for Hunter Spring Co. and later became the district sales manager for Eriez Manufacturing Company, Erie, Pa. From 1964 to 1985, John owned his own business as a Manufacturers' Representative in the area of industrial processing equipment.
John was past president of the Chalfont Lions Club, was a founding member of the Chalfont VFW and served as Chairman of the Board of MANA (the Manufacturers' Agents National Association) in 1976. He was an Eagle Scout and actively supported the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life.
John and Virginia were devoted members of Pleasantville Church in Eureka, Pa. for 50 years.
John is survived by his daughter, Gwenn Lavoie (Roger) of Cumberland, R.I.; his daughter, Gail Hoke (Dale) of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; his grandson, Adam Hoke (Julia Munoz); and great grandson, Thomas, his granddaughter, Nicole Lavoie (Dan Martins); and his great granddaughter, Victoria.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Gary Schwartz, and the staff members of Ecumenical Retirement Community and Grane Hospice for the exceptional care they rendered.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
