[JoeBaileyAncestry.ged] John Short the Elder is listed as a passenger on the expedition toJamestown in 1607. He was a "gentleman", which meant he was on the voyage in order to get rich. (Back at that time the term "gentleman" meant that a person did not do menial labor.) Captain John Smith's "no work, no food" policy probably discouraged John Short from staying in Jamestown beyond his required term, and he returned to England.
