"Book: From the Heart of Hockley Co., Texas: Recollections 1986 (text copied by Alex Early and emailed on 12/12/2002) p. 160 John and Zack Shofner John and Zach Shofner moved to Hockley County in August 1925, from Bangs, Texas. Two of their fifteen childrn were at home, Blanche and John H.

Through the following years ten of their married children and their families also settled near Levelland.

One of their sons, Presley Shofner, brought his family by wagon at the same time as his parents. I n 1926 they cleared two sections of land for that season and built two farm houses with lumber brought in from Littlefield.

Three and one half miles north of Levelland (on the Littlefield highway) would be the home for ten of the Shofner families before 1941. It was soon nicknamed "Shofner lane".

On "Shofner Lane" lived Earnest and Maude Shofner and their two children, Quatha and Charles; Presley and Lela Shofner and their three children, Gladys, Vernon and Christine; Horace and Anna Lee Shofner and their four children, Orville, Wanda Gene, Beckley and Carolyn; Ralph and Mable Shofner, who in later years adopted a child, Janice Sue, who was left on their doorstep. Lonnie Shofner was the oldest son; he was married to Brownie and they had seven children, Maxine, Clayton, Norene, Earl, Burl, J. W., and Holloween. When Lonnie died Maxine and the seven children moved to "Shofner Lane" where the other Shofners could help with the raising of the children.

Other children to live on "Shofner Lane" were Blanche Shofner and her husband, Earnest Allison and their three children, Edwin, Merle, and Carol; another daughter and her husband, Wilmer Vardeman and their four children, LaVern, Joy Dene, Billie and Mildred, John and Edith (Epperson) and their two sons, Glen and Travis, Maude Shofner and her husband, Will Huffaker and their four children; Loyd, Callaway, Maurice and Chloie.

Another son, Bill, made his home in San Francisco, traveling around the world and never marrying.

Presley and Lela Shofner's daughter Gladys, who married Roy Cox, lives in Levelland now; their grown son, Jimmy and his wife live in Plaines, TX. Their son, Vernon, and his wife live in Lubbock and have two grown sons. Their youngest daughter, Christine, and her husband Charles, live in Albuquerque, NM. Her children are Myron, Kingsland, TX. John, Whiteface, TX, Elaine, Utah, Margaret, Plano, TX, Ron, Garland, TX, Mike, Mesquite, TX, Drenda, Arizona, Philip, Oklahoma and Bill, Levelland."
