Moses was the son of John Shoemaker (b.Aug 10, 1790) and Rebecca Farmer (b.Sept. 22, 1796). John was the son of William Shoemaker and Suzanna Cavit. Who were the parents of Talitha Jane Mills? Oral family history details that she was of Indian heritage and actually practiced Indian folk medicine. There were other Mills in the county. Were they kin to Talitha? [edit] Rebecca Shoemaker AffidavitThe State of Alabama, County of C__ On this the 27th jay of A.D. 1851 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Rebecca Shoemaker aged 55 years A resident of County in the State of Alabama who duly sworn according to declared that she is the widow of John Shoemaker deceased who was a Sergeant in the Company Commanded by Capt. Robt. Tunnel in the Regument of Tennessee Militia Commanded by Colonol Blodon in the war with the Indians in the year 1814 for the term of 6 months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of 4 months and was xxxxx honorably discharged at Anderson County Tenn. on or about __ day of May AD 1814 all of which facts appear upon - his original Certificate of Discharge which he received and which has ]ong since been lost or destroyed but that the appears upon the Muster rolls of said Company, She further states that she was married to the said John Shoemaker in Anderson County, Tennessee on the 23rd day of February AD !812 by one William McA a Justice of the Peach xxxxxxx and that her name before her marriage was Rebecca Farmer. That her said husband died at Washington County Alabama on the 30th day of August AD 1834 and that she is still a widow. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled under the "Act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the Military Service of the United States, passed September 28th, 1850 (1820). Rebecca Shoemaker Sworn to and Subscribed before me the day and year above written, Wm. J, 8oyd Justice of Peace The State of Alabama County Before me Austin W~ Wilcox, Judge of the Probate. Court in and for said County personally appeared Moses Shoemaker and Johnny M. Shoemaker who being duly sworn deposith and says that the personally and intimately acquainted with the John Shoemaker in his __ and know of their own personal knowledge that he the said John Shoemaker did live with the above named Rebecca Shoemaker as man and wife for more than 15 years and that said John Shoemaker is dead and that said Rebecca Shoemaker is still a widow and that they are not interested Moses Shoemaker - Margarett Shoemaker Sworn to and subscribed before me this 2nd day of February 1852. ! also certify that said are men of good character and that this statement under oath are entitled to faith and credit, References
