Facts and Events
In 1841, John settled two miles west of Tiffin where he was sooner or later sourrounded by nearly all of his sons and daughters until June 1859, when he departed this life, aged nearly 83 years. His aged wife survived him a short time, then followed to join him in th efamily home beyond the clouds of mortality. 1995 - Information from Gordon McGinley, grandson of Orville James Swander: The "History of Seneca CO" by W. Lang recounts that John Schwander married in 1800 in Lehigh country and rented farms in the vicinity of the old family homestead until 1807, when he moved to Fairfield Co, OH. He later returned and bought the old homestead. This is where his son, Edward, and "all the younger girls" were born. After Edward moved to Clinton, OH in 1840, John Schwander sold the homestead, 1841, and moved himself to Clinton, building a small brick house about 2 miles from Tiffin, OH. This was located (in 1880) going east on South Greenfield road "until it strikes Morrison State Road." Looking north one could see the house by Willow Creek. Here, he lived until his death in 1859. His wife, Elizabeth, died less than 2 years later, 1861. They had been married 9 years. |
