On Page 556 of the book, it says John was mustered out on June 8, 1865, and when he returned home, he resumed working in the woolen mills at Wabash.

In 1870, owing to the ill state of health resulting from his severe military experiences, he was compelled to give up his work in the mills.

  5. Markley was a monument manufacturer. Failing heath caused John to withdraw from this work also, after a few years, forcing a practical retirement.
  6. The 1880 Federal Census shows that John and his wife were born in "BYRON", which of course is incorrect! The enumerator probably meant "Bayern", which actually means the Bavarian Palatinate (Rhein-Pfalz).
