John was reared in Liberty Twp, Seneca CO OH & pursued his education in t he log school house at Bettsville, Seneca CO OH. Early he became famili ar with the work of the farm through practical experience & on attaining h is maturity he took charge of the old homestead upon which he lived unt il 1867, when he acquired his own farm. Here he successfully engaged in t he cultivation of his fields & in the raising of stock. He owned 160 acr es of land & nearly all of the improvements thereon were made by him. He w as a staunch Republican in his political affiliations & as every true Amer ican should do, he kept well informed on the issues of the day, so th at he was enabled to support his position by intelligent argument. He he ld the office of Twp. treasure & faithfully discharged his duties, but nev er aspired to political honors. He always lived the life of an honest, ind ustrious & enterprising farmer & his activity resulted in bringing to h im a comfortable home.
