Life-time Lynden resident, Mr. John Roosma, died at St. Joseph Hospital on Saturday, August 31. He was 87.
The son of James and Sophie Roosma, John was born in October 24, 1914. He was married to Katie DeGroot in Everett on August 10, 1938 and for forty-five years owned and operated Roosma Refrigeration in Lynden and also drove bus for Lynden Christian Schools for many years.
Mr. Roosma was a member of the Third Christian Reformed Church in Lynden and loved to play the guitar and harmonica. He also enjoyed golf and fishing.
He was preceded by his wife Katie in 1998; sister Kate Roosma; brothers Frank, Ed, Jake and Pete Roosma; step-brother Clarence Tjepkema and son-in-law Bill VanDyke.
John is survived by daughters Sharon Worthen and husband Richard of Lynden, Janice VanDyke-Zeilstra and husband John of Hinsdale, Illinois and Ruth DeJong and husband Jim also of Lynden; fourteen grand and thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters Effie Bode and husband Bill, Sr., Gert Likkel, Hess Kaemingk and husband Elmer and Lena Kok and husband Marv all of Lynden, Bertha Monks and husband Frank and brother Eugene Roosma all of Bellingham; sisters-in-law Mary Roosma, Jo Roosma, Johanna Roosma and Fritz Roosma-Nyland and husband John all of Lynden and numerous other relatives.
