Capt. John Rogers, of Rogers Trading Post, Hiwassee River
Facts and Events
Research notes
- operated a trading post on the Hiwassee River in eastern Tennessee
- no proof that he was a Captain, but some claim he was a Tory captain, a loyalist, as were most men associated with the Cherokee Emorys
- Diaries for June 30, 1806 record a visit by John Rogers, a white man with Cherokee citizenship who lived on the Hiwassee River in TN. Rogers told the missionaries that he wanted to place his 12-year old daughter (unnamed) in the Spring Place school, but since the girl's mother (also unnamed) was a sister of John Falling (brother-in-law of James Vann) it might be impolite to put her so close to the residence of James Vann, who was still angry at the Falling family. [Spring Place, GA Moravian diaries]
Possible duplicate
- Person:John Rogers (298), born Jean Roger in France. His family was integrated with the Emorys (also from France), so this is a possibility. More research needed.
