John Reynolds appears on the 1790 reconstruced census* for Kentucky (listed in one of the few formed counties - Lincoln) but not for Guilford County, North Ca rolina - possibly indicating that he moved his family at that time. Since this was very early in the history of settlement of Kentucky, it is likely that this is the same John Reynolds.

  • Kentucky was a part of Virginia at the time of this census - it did not become a state until 1792. The reconstructed census wa s created to place individmacls as closely as possible in states as they appear in modern day. Lincoln county was one of the few original counties in the Kent ucky territory of Virginia. Several different land entries c 1774-1790 place bo th Knox and Whitley counties in Lincoln county Kentucky territory.

John Reyn olds had a grant for 600 acres of land on the Rowling Fork (possibly the Laurel River or Cumberland River) 4 Sept 1790 [Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds, Chapte r II, Lincoln Entries , 1779-1787, p 59 'original book 2 p 311]
