John's parents wer William REDMOND and Sarah MCKENZIE. 1896 - John married Olive AUSTIN in the USA. There was at least one daughter, Evelyn, from this marriage. 1937 - The following notices appeared in "The Colac Herald" on Friday 13 February 1937, p.4: REDMOND - On the 11th August, at Colac, John Henry (Harry) beloved husband of Lillie Redmond aged 58 years. Late AIF. Requiescat In Pace. Interred at Colac Cemetery on the 12th August 1937. GEORGE GARNET JAMES Phone Colac 52. Funeral Director. OBITUARY - MR. JOHN HENRY REDMOND. The death took place on Wednesday of Mr John Henry Redmond, husband of Mrs Lillie Redmond of Queen Street, Colac, at the age of 58 years. Born at Wexford, Ireland, he was the son of the late Dr William and Sarah Redmond, and spent a good potion of his youth in America and Canada. He enlisted in the Great War as a private in the 23rd Battalion AIF. The funeral took place at the Colac Cemetery yesterday afternoon when a large gathering assembled to pay their last respects. Many beautiful floral tributes were forwarded by friends and relatives including one wreath from the Colac sub-branch of the RSSLLA. The casket was borne to the graveside by Messrs L. Perkins, son-in-law A. Frith, S Stowe, E. Tickner, J. Parsons and A. Ritchie, the Pall being supported by Messrs W. Grant, W. Frith, R. Grant, R. Burnett, H. Collett, A. Hearn, J. A. Lemon, H. Frith and J. O'Connor. The Very Rev. Dean D. R. Howell officiated at the graveside and the service of the RSSLLA was conducted by Messrs C. Cowley (President), R. Haslem (Secretary, and A. Christy, the Last Post being sounded by Mr Hugh Bartlett. The mortuary arrangements were in the hands of Mr George Garnet James. John is buried with his daughter Bessie. |
