- The Find A Grave memorial with this death date, of course having no gravestone image, erroneously pairs the death date of this man with information belonging to his great-uncle. They were both called John Jr. at the times of their death, but they died over 50 years apart! This is shown by consulting probate files (the great uncle who died in 1770 had married Mary Cummings, probate file 48380, while the younger man who died in 1824 had married Nancy Cummings, probate file 48381), or even, The Putnam Genealogy (the great uncle is John #393, Vol. 1, p. 248, the man who died is John #2266, mentioned, but not covered, on p. 385).
Another Find A Grave memorial has an image of the apparently correct gravestone, but the stone is virtually unreadable, and specifically, nothing can be made of the date. The memorial page gives the wrong year of death, 1825, when his probate clearly shows he died in 1824.
