The complete Savage info for the names John and Robert Purrington: "PURRINGTON, JOHN, Kennebunk, was clk. of the writs 1668. JOHN, Exeter, s. of Robert, rem. to Salisbury. JOHN, Salisbury, s. of the preced. perhaps, by w. Sarah had Sarah, b. 26 Jan 1691. ROBERT, Portsmouth 1665, freem. 1672; had John, b. a. 1636; and Robert, a. 1638; perhaps both b. Eng. may have rem. to Salisbury, and had other ch. may easily be mistaken for Pudington. The name is much diffus. and often found writ. without g but with single r."


The Genealocigal Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire (v4, p 571) indicates that the John of Kennebec was son of Humphrey Purington: "GEORGE, tavern keeper, York, s. of Robert and Joan of Tiverton, co. Devon, where he m. Mary Pooke in St. Peter's par. 5 Feb. 1630. ... Ch., 1st 3 bp. at Tiverton: George, bp. 12 Feb. 1631, not in will. Mary, bp. 2 Feb 1632-3, eldest dau. by will, m. Peter Weare; liv. Nov. 1717, +/- 83. Joan, bp. 22 Feb 1634, not in will. John, b. +/-1635-6, eldest s. by will, which gave the homestead to him and br. Elias, who helped appraise Wm. Endle's land in a levy 17 Nov. 1667; see als Y. D. 4; 47. Frances, 2d dau. Rebecca, youngest dau."
