W.; is named 'yeoman' in old deed: 'Isaac Osborn, Husbandman, of town of Windsor, etc., for 260 pounds to me in hand well and timely paid by John Prior of Enfield, County of Hampshire, Province of Massachusetts, Husbandman,' conveys 'a tract of Land containing 60 acres, bounded north on Benjamin Osborn, east runs mile and a half from Great River; south on land of John Phelps, Ephraim Bancroft, and John Styles; west upon Great River, Being in township of Windsor, at Namerick'—dated 24 June, 1727; John Prior's name is found in Rev. Timothy Edwards’s Rate Book for the year 1730; in 1738 he is described as of Enfield; sells land to William Thrall, but does not sell any right that belongs to him as heir to estate of Humphrey Prior, late deceased]. [Footnote: t It is very prob. that the following (Enf. Rec.) may be added to this John’s family, viz.: Daniel, the son of John Prior and Mary, his wife, was b. 16 Oct., 1697; Sarah, the dau. of John Prior, and Mary, his wife, b. 12 Feb., 1699/1700; Nathan, son of John and Mary, b. 21 Sept., 1702; Azariah, son of John and Mary, b. 26 Jan., 1704/5; Ezekiel, son of John and Mary, b. 24 Apl., 1707; Thankful, b. 9 Sept., 1709; prob. the Thankful whose purpose of matrimony with Daniel Chapin (both of Enf.) was rec. (Enf Rec.) 5 Oct., 1728; 'joyned' 30 Oct., 1728."

  4. The only reference to the wife "Sarah" is in the Stiles sketch. Sarah is not mentioned in the records of the births of John's three children born in Windsor. Mary is mentioned as the mother in the birth records of John's six children born in Enfield. It is quite possible that there was no Sarah and that Mary was the mother of all nine children. Records for this family are minimal.
