JOHN(1) PRESSEY [Spelled also PRESSIE, PRESSY, PRESSE, etc.], of Amesbury, "planter," b. ab. 1639, came to Salisbury from Eng. abt. 1650 or '51 [See deposition of "Smith & Presse," about Maj. Robert Pike's land in Salisbury, Sep., 1693 [NEHGR 1881, p. 232.] They came with Pike, as his servants, in 1650-1, and lived with him 10 or 12 years.], taxed is S. 1659; bought land in A. in 1664; meeting house seat in A. 1667; served in King Philip's war, under Capt. Turner, in the "Falls Fight," May 18, 1676, oath al. at A. 1677; "training band" 1680. He m. Dec. 4, 1663 (Salisbury) MARAH GOUGE (Wm), who was b. abt 1645. He testified against Susanna Martin in 1692, to events which occurred ab. 1668; d. Nov. 18, 1707 (Amesbury). A "Mariah Presse" [A "Mara" Pressey of A., m. Feb. 9, 1712-3 (Amesbury record), in And., JOHN(3) KIMBALL.] dismissed from S. to A. chh., March, 1699-1700.
