Facts and Events
John Porter was granted land at Penniac. John's lot at Penniac was between the lot of Joel Donalds and J. Harris and opposite the lot of Frederick Clearwater at Mount Hope. (1775-1885 Nashwaak Families) Widow's Pension on file PANB "The land which later became known as the settlement of Boiestown was petitioned for by members of the Porter family in August, 1809. The eaqrliest grants, comprising 200 acres each, were allotted in 1811 to Samuel and William Porter; sons of John Porter, Sr. of Penniac. In 1816 Daniel Porter received a 200 acre grant just west of the Samuel Porter grant. These three lots, along with the Christopher Young grant of 100 acres on Burnt Land Brook granted in 1824, became the nucleus of the village of Boiestown. These grants represent all that part of Boiestown lying between the Taxis River and the general area of Burnt Land Brook. Others receiving grants in the Boiestwon District, but outside this particular area, were James Fairley, Miles MacMillan, James Porter, Anthony Lockwood, and John Porter." (A History of Early Boiestown, p2) "To the Honorbale M. Hunter, Esquire, president of Council The memorial of John porter, John Porter, Jr., William Porter, and Samuel Porter That John Porter, the father of the other three petitioners, has had an allotment of 200 acres on the Penyack, on which he has labored for many years, but finds it incapable of affording a support for his family. That John Porter, Jr. is of the age of twenty-one, William Porter is nineteen and Samuel Porter is seventeen and neither of them has had any allotment in the Province. Your petitioners therefore pray to have allotments of 200 acres each, on vacant lots in the tract granted to Ephraim betts and others on the Southn West branch of the Miramichi River, namely two contiguous lots near above the lot of Samuel peters, including the islands in front of the lots and two other contiguous lots near above the Burnt Land Brook with such small islands as may lie in their part. And as in duty bound. John Porter, August 22 1809" Ludlow, 14 December 1827 land petition regarding Joshua Jewitt's mill is signed by (selected names): Nathaniel Moores, Stephen Moores, Samuel Moores, David Porter, Eilliam Porter, Samuel Porter, and George A.
