John Reynolds Petersen was born on October 31, 1918 in Old Rankin, Oklahoma and passed away August 12, 1990 in his home at the age of 71 years, 10 months, and 12 days. John R., the son of John Henry and Arla Ruby Petersen, graduated from the first graduating class of Reydon High School in 1936. He later graduated from Oklahoma A&M with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse in Pennsylvania for several months before entering the Army where he served in the Corps of Engineers during World War II from 1941 through 1946 as a captain. After returining to Reydon he married Nellie Juanita Easterling on November 24, 1946 and they remained in the Reydon Community to make their home. He was a member of the Reydon Masonic Lodge and had served on the Roger Mills County Selective Service Board, the Reydon School Baord for 15 years and the Farmers Home Administration Board. John R. was proud of receiving his pilots license and medicare card at approximately the same time. He later took up the fiddle and another project he wanted to accomplish. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nellie, of the home. 2 sons, John and his wife, Teresa of Cleveland, OK; David of Vernal, Utah, 1 sister, Belva Mae Newson of Woodland Park, Colorado. 1 brother, Glen Petersen of Atascosa, TX; 3 grandchildren: Tracie, Jill and Christy. Interment in the White Rose Cemetery, Reydon, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
