John Edward Pelton, 83, Topeka, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Pelton worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. for 27 years before he retired in 1980. He earlier had worked in various jobs in Robinson, Denton, Lakin, Circleville and Valley Falls. He also farmed before he moved to Topeka.
He was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Ford, the son of Fred Austin and Bertha M. Long Pelton.
He graduated from Holton High School in 1937. He moved to Topeka in 1950. Mr. Pelton was a member of Northland Christian Church and a former member of the Northland Golden Age Dinner Club, Local No. 307 Retirees and the Bull Dozers Camping Club.
He was married to Laura "Frances" Hickman on April 16, 1939, in Highland. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Glenda L. Nelson and Janice R. Bays, both of Topeka; two brothers, Harold Pelton, Topeka, and Alvin "Mike" Pelton, Holton; two sisters, Susie Curtis, Ness City, and Nina Fern Morrell, Abbeyville; five grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Northland Christian Church in Topeka.
Burial will be in Holton Cemetery in Holton.
Mr. Pelton will lie in state after 11 a.m. Thursday at Parker-Price Mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.
