- ↑ John is subject to much incorrect coverage:
NEHGR, Vol. 120, p. 100, on the Ellis family, says John b. 13 Apr 1737, bp Sandwich 5 Aug 1739. But both records are baptisms, so this must be two distinct children named John. (Also, no sister Eunice is shown, but this only covers the first wife Thankful, with no coverage of the second wife.) NEHGR, Vol. 57, p. 159, on the Peckham family, says John b. 13 Apr 1737, without being aware of the baptism in Sandwich, and shows the first marriage to Eunice Clarke of Providence never mentioning Mercy Ellis. But the marriage to Eunice Clarke of Providence is found in Petersham in 1786 and and clearly doesn't account for all his children. (His sister Eunice is given to the second wife Sarah, but see her page for a detailed discussion about how her age at death suggests this is not possible.) Source:Peckham, Stephen Farnum. Peckham Genealogy : The English Ancestors and American Descendants of John Peckham of Newport, Rhode Island, 1630, p. 314 is basically a copy of the Peckham article but worse, since it shows the 1786 date for the marriage to Eunice Clarke, presented as his first wife, even though several children are born before this date including a daughter Abigail who herself married before this date! (This source shows a sister Eunice but has her married to the wrong man.)
