Jo: Peat, a husbandman, ae. 38, from Duffield, co. Derby, came in the Hopewell, Apr. 1635. The name in Stratford, where he early settled, was often spelled Peake, then Peat, and at last more generally Peet. John, Sr., d. at Stratford, 1 Sept. 1684. No probate found. Perhaps his last wife was Ann "Peacke", whose Inv. was taken 29 Apr. 1687 by John Green and Joseph Lockwood.

Savage slated of this passenger that "where he settled is unknown, unless he was of Stratford, and there died early in 1678, leaving wife Sarah and children Samuel, John, Joseph, Sarah, Elizabeth and Jane" [Savage 3:380]. John Peat (whose name was also spelled John Peak) and his family did not create any records in Stratford until 1663 [FOOF 1:467-68], making it highly unlikely that the Stratford man was the passenger of 1635.
