Capt. John Peabody was son of Lieut. Francis and Mary (Foster) Peabody, and was born in 1642. He was the first of the name born in America.

4. Captain John3 (Francis2 John1), born at Hampton about 1642; married first, Nov. 23, 1665, Hannah, daughter of Robert and Grace Andrews; she died Dec. 25, 1700-1. He married second, Nov, 26, 1703, at Dorchester, Sarah Mosely, who survived him.
He resided at Boxford; made "freeman" in 1674; was representative to the General Court 1689-1691. He died July 5, 1720, and his will, dated Oct. 17, 1719, was proved in August, 1720. His sons "David Pabody" and "Nathan Pabody" signed the agreement of heirs. Besides these his five married daughters, several grandchildren, three servants and the widow were legatees.

- ↑ Perley identifies the mother of Capt. John as Mary Foster (his father's 2nd wife). Anderson dates Francis' marriage to Mary Foster about 1650. John being the eldest son would be of Lydia. Birthplace is postulated to be Hampton, as the first place Francis (his father) settled and he (Francis) is thought to have moved to "Rowley Village," now Boxford, about the time of his marriage to Mary Foster.
