Case 20842: Peabody, John, test. 1758. Dec. 4.

    John Peabody [#29], s/o Jonathan, b. Boxford 30 Dec 1713, d. 1748 [sic, presumably means 1758], m. 18 May 1736 Sarah Dorman. Will dated 17 [sic, "this Seventh Day of April"] Apr 1755, proved 4 Dec 1758.

  5.   Note: the Peabody Genealogy gives the wrong birthdate for the wife, 7 Feb 1712 instead of 7 Feb 1700/01, confirmed by a baptism in 1701. (Perley's History of Boxford, cited on her page, may be the source of this error, giving the birthdate as 7 Feb 1701-2, which may have been assumed to mean 7 Feb 1712 in view of John's birth in 1713?) So he misses the need to puzzle over the age difference, she being 12 years old than John. John and Sarah Peabody signed a receipt in Timothy Dorman's estate for the legacy left to his daughter Sarah Peabody, so Timothy's daughter is the wife of a John Peabody, but there is no obvious evidence that Jonathan's son John is Sarah's husband. What we can tell is that the only children named in the will are from this marriage, which seems to rule out this being a second marriage. Thus, we are left with this result apparently by process of elimination: the older John [Peabody #17], b. 1695, is the only one old enough to marry and have a child in 1723, while the son of David [Peabody #24] married Mary Chadwick, names his eldest son David, and is even younger than this John.
