American militiaman during Revolutionary War; This Peekskill native was one of three men who helped foil the plot by Benedict Arnold and the British to capture the fortress at West Point by arresting British spy, Major John Andre, as he traveled in September, 1780, through Pocantico Hills, Westchester county, with the treasonous plans hidden in his boot. The other militiamen involved in the Andre encounter were Isaac Van Wart and David Williams. Andre was later hanged by the American forces. Paulding only aged 22 at the time of the encounter lived to be 60 years old and he is buried under a 15 foot marble monument in this cemetery which is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
