John Parrott was born on 5th December 1782 and baptised later that month at Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. He was the son of John and Ann Parrott.
On 28th November 1805, aged nearly 23, John married Susannah Hobbs at Whipsnade in Bedfordshire. They went on to have five children together between 1806 and 1820, although the youngest died when only two years old in 1822. The first four children were baptised at Flamstead and the youngest at Whipsnade. Susannah's family seems to have lived in the Gaddesden Row / Ballingdon Bottom area, close to the borders of Flamstead, Whipsnade and Great Gaddesden parishes.
By 1841 John and Susannah had moved a couple of miles south back to Hemel Hempstead, where they lived at Piccotts End on the northern edge of the town. The 1841 census finds John, Susannah and two of their children living there, with John described as an agricultural labourer.
Susannah died in 1842, aged 57.
The 1851 census finds John as an inmate at the Hemel Hempstead Union Workhouse.
John died in 1856, very close to what would have been his 74th birthday. He was buried at Hemel Hempstead on 6th December 1856.
