    "In the name of Almighty God, Amen, I, John Parks of Berkeley County and State of Virginia being in perfect state of body and mind and knowing the uncertainty of life do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following FIRST and principally I recommend in the most. submissive earner my soul into the hands: of Almighty God who gave it hoping through ????? (Blurred and dim in original) of our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to inherit everlasting life. The worldly goods it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow on me I dispose in manner following by them I do by these my last will and testament authorize and appoint my brother Samuel Park and my brother-in-law William Patterson executors of this my last will and testament. ITEM after my last debts are paid I give and bequeath unto my loving wife, Mary Park one third of all my movable property also one third of the place I now live on during her life and also my negro woman Hannah, and my negro girl Alice and also my Still during her life but if after my decease she should not choose to live on the place where I now live on I will that in lieu of the one third of said place my son James Park pay his mother yearly and every year during her life the sum of 10 pounds current money or other effects which he shall choose rating them as things rated in the year 1774.
    ITEM I will to my son William Parks during his natural life the land he now lives on on Middle Creek and after his decease to his two sons, John and James Park to them and their Heirs to be equally divided between them according to value but if either of them should die before he marries or arrives to the age of twenty one years, the land to be valued by 2 persons choosen for that purpose and the survivor to pay one half of the value and that money to be equally divided between his other brother and sisters as they marry or come of age.
    I will also to my son William Park 20 pounds Pennsylvania currency to be paid him either in cash or other effects whichever my son James shall choose rating things as they were rated in the year 1774 as also my young bay horse which I intend for my riding horse or one other of equal value to him when he was four years old.
    I will to my daughter Elizabeth Vance after her mother's decease, my negro girl Alice.
    I will to my son James Park all the land I now possess on Dry Run including that I bought of Samuel. Nelson, to him and his Heirs forever as also my stock and horses and cows, sheep and hoggs (sic) and all my movable household furniture and my plantation utensils and also my Still, after my wife decease, I will also that my son James, after my decease pay the Rev. Hugh Vance, Stephen Mares, Thomas McCoy, David Patterson the sum of 30 pounds Pennsylvania currency each in the value thereof in other effects, whichever he, the said James Parks shall choose rating things as they would have been rated in 1774 to be paid without any interest till three years after my decease.
    I will also that my son James pay to my two granddaughters, Mary and Elizabeth Black the sum of 30 pounds in Pennsylvania currency to be paid as they marry or come of age to be paid either money or produce whichever he shall choose rating them as things would be rated in 1774.
    ITEM I will also to my son James Parks after his mother's decease my negro woman, Hannah.
    ITEM I will that the cash end bonds I have at my decease, after my debts are paid, be equally divided among my children but if any of them should die before that time their part thereof be equally divided amongst their heirs."

    In witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand, seal to this my last will and testament and contained on this side and the other side of this half sheet of paper this 6th day of September one thousand seven hundred and eighty one.

    At a Court held for Berkeley County, the 20 day of May 1784 this last will and testament of John Park, deceased was presented in Court by Samuel Parks one of the Executors therein named who made oath thereto according to law and the same being proved by the oaths of Eleanor Davenport, and Catherine Davenport witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded on the motion of the said executors who entered into bond with Rev. Hugh Vance and Stephen Mares as his securities in the penalty of 1000 pounds conditioned for his true and faithful administration of the said estate certi-ficate is granted him for obtaining the probate thereof in due form of law.

Clerk of County Court of Berkeley County, a Court of record in and for said county and state, do certify that the foregoing is true, accurate complete copy of the will of John Parks as the same appears of record in the office of said clerk of the County Court in Will Book #1 page 355.
