An abstract of the will of 'Als Hownsted of the psh. of Great Lees, wedoo' dated '2nd July, 1533' and proved '2nd August, 1533' is provided. From other references, it is clear that the author considers this to be the will of the mother of James Olmstead who married Jane Bristow. She names 3 sons: James, William and John, with 'son James' to be executor along with John Sorell.
There would appear to be an error somewhere, as the author estimates that Alice's son James was born about 1550 - it seems unlikely that he would have been named even as a co-executor at the age of 3. Possibilities include:
- the dates given in the abstract are incorrect (maybe they should be 1583 instead of 1533);
- the estimated birth year of James is incorrect (and Jane was not his first wife);
- this will is from an earlier generation (not the mother of the James who married Jane Bristow).
