"Newton, John P. born Linn Co, 16 July 1849, died Feb. 10 [1916]. On 28 Mar. 1875 married Mattie Brumbaugh. Seven children born, four living; Mrs. Mattie Bailey and Marie Newton, Los Angeles; Mrs. Floy McClelland, Gilman City, Mo.; Charley of Home. Those deceased are Mrs. Lora Johnson, Mabel Clair and John. Wife died 9 Aug. 1908. On Dec. 5, 1910 he married Mrs. Belle Richardson who survives. Died Winfield, KS. where he lived, remains back to Browning where buried beside first wife in Jenkins Cem"; page 61.
