Notes
From the Revolutionary Pension File of Joseph McClellan:
- [p 6: On June 15, 1844 in Lauderdale County Tennessee, the veteran applied for the transfer of his pension benefit to the Tennessee agency giving as his reason for removing to Tennessee that his wife had died, all his children & friends had left the region where he resided in Indiana and he wish to spend the remainder of his days with his daughter Mrs. John Nevill whose residence is in Lauderdale County Tennessee. John C. Nevils gave a supporting affidavit.]
Tax & Census Records:
John Nevels is listed in the Early Tax Records and in the 1840 U.S. Census in Lauderdale County, Tennessee. He disappears from records prior to the 1850 U.S. Census, as his likely wife Elizabeth [McClellan] is listed in the subsequent 1860 & 1870 U.S. Census records without him, but is listed with her two daughters Melinda J. and Nancy Catherine Nevels.
There is a John C. Nevels listed in the Index of Will Book "B", 1844-1855 in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, as follows:
- Nevils, John C. i. 119-20
It is very likely that this John Nevels is the same person listed, which would certainly explain his disappearance from records from 1850 on. Additional research needed to prove.
