1716 - St Ann's Parish, Essex County document shows "Moseleys Quarters", adjacent BURTON and MAITRUM WRIGHT.

Lived in Middlesex Co., Virginia until at least 1735.

9 Oct 1744 - For divers good causes and for the natural affection, I John Mosely of Goochland Go., have for my loving son-in-law, Thomas Poor, and my daughter, Elizabeth Poor, I give them 3 Negroes; 1 man named Ben;, 1 woman named Frank [sic], and 1 gire named Sue, with their increase. The Negroes are given to the Poors during their natural lives. After the death of Thomas and Elizabeth Poor, the 3 Negroes and their issue to be equally divided among the children of my daughter, Elizabeth Poor. Signed Oct. 9, 1744 - John Moseley. 9 Oct 1744 - Thomas Poor, Sr. of Hanover County for love and affection to loving son Thomas Poor, Jr. and wife Elizabeth (Mosley) of Goochland County... 200 acres in Goochland on north side of James River bounded by James George's land, Arthur Hopkins. Dated 9 October 1744. Witnesses: James George, Abraham Poor, Robert Estes, Jr. 16 Oct. 1744, Thomas Poor, Sr. acknowledged this deed which was ordered recorded. Susannah, his wife, privately examined, relinquished her right of dower in land. [Goochland County DB 4:434]

[Deeds of gift from John Moseley Senior and Thomas Poor III to Thomas Poor IV and his wife (dau of John Moseley) dated 16 Oct 1744 would seem to indicate that this is about the time of their marriage. Marriage date often seen as 23 Dec 1756 which is actually the first child baptized by Rev. Douglas so that is an "implied marriage record".]

18 May 1747 - I, John Moseley of the County of Goochland, grant to John Haden and his wife, Jenny Haden, of the County of Goochland four Negroes named Hannah, Bristow, Nan and Prince to them & their heirs forever. Upon the death of my Son-In-Law, John Haden and my daughter Jenny Haden, the four Negroes and their increase are to be equally divided among the children of John Haden and his wife Jenny Haden.     1712 - John bought 40 Acres of land on White Oak Swamp from George Stapleton. This was land which had been owned by Henry Nicholls, and probably part of the same tract of which John's Father had bought a piece in 1700.

    1724 - John was one of two men appointed in his Precinct to take an Agricultural Census.

    1731 - John and James Daniel Processioned the land between the lower end of the New Dragon Bridge Road and the Briery Swamp to Millstone Valley.

    1734 - Churchwardens received 234 pounds of tobacco from John Moseley for his levies in that year.

    1752 - witness to his brother's will in Goochland County.

    When he died two years later, his Inventory was valued at 414 pounds and included nine slaves, one of whom was named "Middlesex". His Children Sarah, Jennie, Elizabeth and John are all listed in the Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex County, Va.
