Will of John Morton

I, John Morton of the Parish of Sittenbourne, in the County of Richmond being sick and weak of body, but of sound mind and memory, praised be the name of Almighty God for the same, do make, and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form as followeth;
remaking and making void and null any will or wills before by me made or sealed or published. First and principally I bequeath my soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth ot be buried in decent order at the discretion of my Exors. hereafter named. Hoping for a joyful meeting at the resurrection of the Just throughthe merits of my blessed Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
ITEM: I give unto my son, Richard Morton all that parcel of land which I bought and purchased of Lawrence Parker.
ITEM: I give unto my two sons James and Thomas Morton and to all of the heirs of their Bodies, the plantation and land thereto belonging whereon I now live after the decease of my loving wife, Deborah Morton and for want of such heirs to Mary and Winifred Morton and their heirs forever.
ITEM; I give unto my son WILLIAM MORTON, four shillings cash.
ITEM: I give unto my son, JOHN MORTON, four shillings cash.
ITEM: I give unto my dear loving wife, DEBORAH MORTON, all my estate real and personnot before given, and I do make and ordain my said loving wife, DEBORAH MORTON Exor. of this my las Will and Testament.in witness whereof I have hereuntoset my hand and seal this 27th day of July 1721.

    In 1694, one, John Morton is found living in Northumberland Co., Virginia and in that year bought 157 acres of land in Richmond County from James Orchard. Presumably he then moved to Richmond County and 27 years later made his will mentioning his sons by name. John & William were cut off with 4 shillings each. One year later he died, his will being proved May 2, 1722.

    ◾Elizabeth Morton, born 1721 Orange Co., Virginia; married Thomas Newman, son of Alexander Newman & Penelope Wilson. Thomas was born 1715 Lancaster Co., Virginia & died about 1788 Culpeper Co., Virginia.

    ◾Jane Morton (twin), born 1726 Orange Co., Virginia; died Culpeper Co., Virginia; died about 1790; married Andrew Bourne, son of John Bourne II & Elizabeth Johnson. Andrew was born 1720 Fredricksburg, Essex Co., Virginia & died 17 January 1790 Culpeper Co., Virginia.
    ◾Ann Morton (twin), born 1726 Orange Co., Virginia; married Henry Bourne, son of John Bourne II & Elizabeth Johnson, 3 March 1745 Virginia. Henry was born 1719 Essex Co., Virginia & died 15 October 1787 Orange Co., Virginia.
    ◾John Morton, born 1728 Orange Co., Virginia; died 12 September 1810 Mortsonville, Woodford Co., Kentucky; married Sarah Hawkins, daughter of Benjamin Hawkins & Sarah Willis, about 1749. Sarah was born about 1730 Orange Co., Virginia & died 1826 Mortonsville, Woodford Co., Kentucky.
