John Mixon, prominent citizen of Gansville, died suddenly at hishome Thursday night of last week. Funeral services were held Friday afternoonat the Gansville church conducted by the Rev. J. W. Buckner ofJonesboro and the Rev. W. T. Strain of Simsboro. Masonic services concluded the rites.Interment was in the Gansville church cemetery. Mr. Mixon was born March 11, 1883 near Gansville, where he livedhis lifetime. In 1906 he was married to Miss Ella Puckett and one daughter wasborn to them, however, at different times he has opened his home to fiveorphaned children to whom he gave a father's devotion. He was a member of theBaptist church at Gansville and also the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella Puckett Mixon, onedaughter, Mrs. Maurice Gates, two granddaughters, Ella Sue and Ada Lynn Gates,three brothers, A. L. Mixon of Dodson, O. J. Mixon of Winnfield, andC. R. Mixon of Pineville. Pallbearers, nephews of the deceased, were Joe Mixon of Homer,Dan Mixon of Dodson, Claud Mixon and Elton Mixon of Winnfield, and Virgil andArthur Taylor of Gansville. |
