A descendant of the Minnick family wrote to me in 1987 and was kind enough to share her records with me. She lived near the area and had visited the homestead of John Minnick and his wife Elizabeth McCauley. This couple were the parents of 12 children.

The Minnick homestead was in the Green Springs area of Washington Co., Virginia, near Abingdon. Green Springs got it's name from the green moss that grew on the rocks in the springs and it is in a valley at the foot of the Smoky Mountains. The original Green Springs Presbyterian Church was a log building. Another church was then built about a mile from the log church, and in 1921 the church caught fire. While trying to save the bell they pushed in the shingle roof and it went up in flames and the bell was broken.
There is another church at this spot now, which was built in 1923. The Green Springs Cemetery lies along one side and in back of the church.
