Person:John McRae (30)

This is where our story begins (or finishes at this stage), shrouded in the mists of Scotland. John was a colonist, carpenter/joiner and was widely known as "Kind John". John McRae married Margaret (sometimes known as Mary) MacMILLAN. They lived at Inverinate West (1841). I must acknowledge the reference source for much of the McRae family tree - a book prepared for the 1975 reunion - MACRAE - Family Tree written by RG McRae, AD McKean and Mrs Hugh Jenkin in 1975. I have since learnt that John MacRae was the son of Christopher (layman of Inverinate) and Annabel MacRae (see MacRaes to New Zealand written by Molly J Akers). Mass emigration saw many MacRaes depart Kintail and Glenshiel to the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. They became known as the "Scattered Children of Kintail". Kind John and Margaret MacRAE had six children. Of these, four, Christopher, John, Roderick and Margaret all left the shores of Scotland seeking new beginnings.
