By the 1871 Census, John McGrath was living in Mara. He married MARY RIL EY (spelled RYELY in the Ontario registry) on Sunday, February 13, 187 6. The Historical Atlas of Ontario County - 1877 lists him as the own er of the lot earlier bequeathed to him by his father. In the mid 187 0s he arranged two mortgages on the property and sold it off in two transa ctions in 1880 and 1883. The next land ownership traced to them was wh en his wife purchased the north half of Lot 13, Concession 8, across the r oad from the Mugans in 1902.


John McGrath died May 4, 1911 and is interred along with his wife and daug hter Stella who passed away at the age of 16 years at St. Andrew's in Brec hin, next to his brother Michael's site.
